You’ve probably seen a shade cloth hanging on a piece of patio furniture many times before. Poolside, they are used to keep plastic lounge chairs from burning your skin. At sea, they are unfurled as boats are anchored on sunny days. As simplistic an invention it is, they have been used as a modern convenience as well as an agricultural necessity. The real marvel is in their basic design. A simple piece of fabric that can be used in so many ways with so many purposes is an uncommon occurrence. A good shade cloth will woven from a tough material. The idea behind their design is to have a fabric that is both breathable and heat resistant. Every year, thousands of farmers depend on them to assist crops during uncommonly dry months and repel the sun during unrelenting summers. A large number of otherwise sheltered farm animals seek refuge from snow and ice storms. Without them, a large number of harvests would never have happened.

The uses of shade cloth are endless. From personal usage to commercial projects, they really are one of the best ways to protect against the elements. 4. Laser Level- Even though some may argue that such a tool is not “power” by definition, the laser portion of the tool does in fact require power to work. The primary difference between this type of level and a spirit and/or pendulum style is the laser’s precision accuracy in indicating the leveled line against a surface.

5. Impact Wrench- This power tool is commonly used to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts on a variety of everyday items. It uses electricity or air in which repeated blows of tiny hammers generate torque to tighten (or loosen) such fasteners. Instead of the more common hand-held wrench, an impact wrench will add longevity to all of your projects and household items. Instead of consistently tightening nuts and bolts that loosen up over time, an impact wrench will securely tighten them the first time, alleviating any concerns of losing bolts and someone being injured in the process.

These figures are three dimensional, made of clay and look as though they could almost exist in the real world.

The down side of these other types of animation that are fast and affordable is that repetition leads to a disinterested audience. This is the last thing any advertiser wants when they spend a bunch of time and money on a television commercial.

Clay animation may cost a little more to produce but the effect is well worth the money. There is a certain mysterious attraction that keeps people watching whenever one comes on the screen. The next time you see some clay animation on television record it and then play it back one frame at a time. There is a lot of effort involved in this process, and it really shows in the final product. Viewers take notice when they see it, and they remember it long afterwards. A larger dog bed will require more materials than a smaller one – the chief reason that they cost so much more to buy. However, thrift stores, old couches and mattresses can yield large quantities of free or low-cost materials. Then it’s simply a matter of making sure the bed will be big enough for your dog and fit in the space you plan to put it in. It’s best to measure your dog while he/she is lying down fully stretched out as well as curled up. A bed that’s a little too big will be preferable to one that’s too small. (Your dog may not mind but you’ll probably feel bad if the fit isn’t right).

What kinds of materials will you use?

• Sources of materials in thrift stores include old quilts, pillows and sleeping bags as well as upholstery or curtain fabric that can be used to cover foam pillows. Talk to the folks at an upholstery shop and see if they have inexpensive remnant pieces of foam in the size you want.

• Another possibility that would require quite a bit of cutting would be to take layers of old carpet or carpet padding and stack them on top of one another, perhaps wrapped in a sheet or quilt.
• For an outside cot, put together a frame from Schedule 40 PVC and then attach canvas or some other strong material using grommets or several lines of sewing with heavy duty thread.

How thick will your dog bed need to be?

For a dog that is older with some aches and pains, a thicker bed will be more desirable. In fact, at least 7 inches of non-compressible foam is recommended for an orthopedic dog bed. That would equal close to two average couch cushions in height. To test a piece of foam for compressibility, pinch it between your thumb and forefinger.

How soon does your dog need a bed?

If you have unexpectedly acquired a dog (this seems to happen quite regularly), you can simply take an old quilt and fold it into a size that fits. An old foam piece that is big enough can be sandwiched in between the layers for a more cushioned effect, or use old carpet or carpet padding, sleeping bags or towels for the same purpose. A discarded sheet can be placed over the top and it can be shaken out daily and washed occasionally until you can create a more permanent bed. This type of pad works well inside a vehicle or dog crate too.

Often we want to enjoy the sun streaming into our home or the view of the trees outside our window but we still want the privacy of a covered window.
