All the Places For Tarps – Using Tarps by Themselves and As Part of a Portable Shelter

Where are some of the places you can find tarps? In general, we see tarps by themselves covering vehicles or other objects, such as furniture or hay, but, in some cases, they’re part of a larger structure. Many portable garages and other shelters use a heavy-duty polyethylene tarp as a roof or side walls. Attached with grommets and bungee cords to a metal frame, such a tarp serves the same purpose as it would ordinarily, only it’s somewhat removed from the object it covers. But, as a tarp is treated to be UV resistant and waterproof, making it part of a larger structure utilizes the tarp’s properties.

When tarps are used by themselves, they simply need to be secured with bungee cords through the grommets to stay in place. In many cases, tarps by themselves are used to cover vehicles, particularly seasonal vehicles that need to be stored for several months. In fact, some tarps are even made in shapes to cover RVs and boats. Aside from vehicles, tarps can be found covering bales of hay, gardens, transported materials in a truck, and baseball fields. Although the materials vary from polyethylene to canvas to polypropylene mesh, all tarps are designed to keep out UVA/UVB rays and water.

Vehicle protection is also offered by portable garages, carports, and other portable outdoor storage shelters. In all cases, these shelters are made from a galvanized steel frame and a heavy-duty polyethylene tarp. Just as the tarp would do on its own, it keeps out water and UV rays, as both of these can damage the surface of a vehicle. Whether you use such a shelter for daily use or for storing seasonal vehicles, polyethylene tarps are used for the canopy portion of such shelters, including the roof and any side walls or doors.

In all instances, tarps are used for their protective properties. Although the specific use varies between polyethylene and canvas designs, all types of tarps, regardless of use, are used to keep numerous objects from being damaged by sunlight and water.
